As indicated by our name, WOKE intends to create civic-conscious and involved students. Our students are socially and politically active within the community. In this way, we are creating conscious and conscientious democratic citizens.

At WOKE Academy, we stand for encouraging positive health overall, and especially for our students. By providing a mandatory counselor for our students to meet with as they choose we hope to encourage positive reflection on our students behavior and well-being. We also are constantly encouraging healthy eating through our school meals and working out through incentive programs for students to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

Black Lives Matter: Although the BLM movement does not support the idea of privatizing education, with WOKE being centered in a dominantly African American community in Los Angeles, we acknowledge BLM’s “vision for black lives” and strive to give our students the quality education they deserve in a number of ways; offering a high quality and rigorous anti-racist curriculum rooted in Ethnic Studies, banning zero tolerance discipline policies, providing health and counseling services to every student...

Rights for gender nonconforming students: We plan to have multiple opportunities for students to abstain from disclosing their gender preferences. With gender neutral single stall bathrooms, to safe spaces where a student can come to talk or just sit in peace, to an open education on what it means to embrace a student’s identity, we strive to be an inclusive campus that encourages student expression and identity.

DACA and immigrant rights: With WOKE being in the center of Los Angeles, we believe in the right of all students regardless of their background to a high quality, wrap around education. Now more than ever we need to protect our immigrant youth and ensure that they are safe in our school against the constant threat of deportation.
